The Surfside was the Texas Navy’s deadliest ship that no one knew about. Seeing the need to stage covert operations and to spy on opposing forces, the Texas Navy outfitted an old shrimp boat to serve as a base for it’s special operations task force. It was still a functional shrimp boat and could be seen plying the waters of the Gulf of Mexico with it’s nets trailing behind. Blending in with much of the activity occurring around it, the Surfside was instrumental in setting the stage for many of the battles the Texas Navy would ultimately undertake.
