Considered the fastest oil tanker ever built, the Lake Jackson was to be the Texas Navy's answer for supplying its ever increasing territory. Fully loaded, the ship was reported to be faster than any of the warships in the French, Spanish or Mexican navies. Unfortunately, the ship struck an iceberg off the coast of Bermuda during its sea trials and set its only record. That was for the fastest sinking ship with a reported time of 26 seconds from the time the ship struck the iceberg to when it was completely underwater.
